Frankie Adamson

Originally from the UK, Frankie Adamson now spends her time between Hong Kong, where she photographs
domestic dogs, and Kenya photographing wildlife in places such as the Masai Mara, Mugie Conservancy
and Amboseli National Park.

By nature Frankie is quite an introverted person; however, her photography skills have given her a voice that
she never felt she had before. She loves telling stories with her images, and she can talk about what she
loves doing to anybody who will listen. Combine that with a love of animals that she nurtured from a young
age, and the end result is a body of photographic artwork which aims to tell the stories of very real animals
with whom we share our world today.

Frankie runs a dog photography business called  Hounds of Hong Kong , where she photographs people’s
dogs on location in both the city and more rural areas. Her signature dog portraiture sees her play a lot with
artistic edits, with the end results often becoming bespoke wall art for her clients’ homes.

By contrast, in her wild animal work she keeps things a lot more simple. Her natural world images are a
reflection of the fact that nature is wonderfully wild and remarkably raw, not manicured and preened to
perfection by human hand. She says with wild animals, you are given a fraction of a second to isolate the
subject in a behaviour or interaction. You have no leverage, there’s no trying it ‘one more time’ and you are
dealt the hand you’re given. Yet it’s this unpredictability that she loves the most. Why? Because that often
leads to the most incredible surprises - she has had many of those in Kenya!

One of the proudest moments in her animal portraiture journey so far has been winning  Natural World
PhoTOGrapher of the Year 2023  in The Tog Awards. Most recently, she was awarded an Associateship
qualification in Domesticated Animals and her Fellowship qualification in Natural World Category by The
British Institute of Professional Photography (The BIPP) - the latter being the highest level of qualification,
and her Gold certification with UK-based photographic educational platform ThatTogSpot.

She works as photographer-in-residence at Governors’ Camp, the oldest tented camp in the Masai Mara,
where she has been so fortunate to be able to photograph wildlife almost daily, and witness the peak of the
migration season in Kenya first hand. At present, she is currently based in the Masai Mara until the end of
August 2024.
