Cheung Manling
Cheung Manling is a Hong Kong-based ink painter whose work is shaped by his family's heritage across Hong Kong, Japan, and Singapore, as well as his education in the United States. This multicultural background allows him to examine his identity and emphasize the preservation of ancient traditions within a modern society.
Describing his practice as a "philosophical inquiry into being," Cheung explores the intersection of history and the present through his art. He manipulates the delicate strokes of traditional Cantonese characters (often overlooked today) to create abstract compositions that bridge classical calligraphy with a graffiti-inspired aesthetic.
