Artist statement

Hong Kong is a concrete jungle, filled with countless ordinary buildings and road signs. These mundane structures and symbols dominate the urban landscape but are often overlooked by the pedestrians who pass them daily. Recently, my attention was drawn to the seemingly unremarkable Chinese character “望” found on road signs. While its literal meaning is “look” or “see,” the character also carries deeper connotations of hope, wishes, expectations, and contemplation when combined with other characters.
Inspired by this simple yet profound symbol, I digitally modified and isolated it from its original photographic context. Each unique image is layered and combined with others to create abstract compositions. Through this process, I transform the familiar into something unexpected, encouraging viewers to pause and reflect.

In today’s increasingly stressful world, adversity often arises in ways that are both unforeseen and beyond our control. My work aims to instill a sense of optimism, inviting viewers to reflect on their personal connections to life’s challenges and to find hope amidst the chaos.
